Hoop Pine Timber Floor Stained with Black Japan

Staining of timber floors has become a frequent line of inquiry here at Budget Floor Sanding Brisbane. Principally the floor stain colours that clients are interested in, are black stains and dark chocolate brown stains. In old queenslanders not everyone desires the honey colour of the old Hoop Pine floor boards and these are the most common timber floors that we are asked to stain.

In this house at Norman Park, Budget Floor Sanding Brisbane, stained the timber floor with a Feast Watson Prooftint colour called Black Japan. This colour stain is an equal mix of black and walnut and as can be seen in the photo gives the wooden floor a dark chocolate brown appearance. As always when staining a timber floor, the customers were provided with stain samples prior to the application of the stain to ensure the colour met the customers expectations. Generally when staining a floor a dark colour the floor is then finished with a satin polyurethane timber floor coating. A gloss finish results in a floor that shows every particle of dust and is very hard to keep looking clean. If your timber floors are looking like they are in need of a re sand and polish, now may be the perfect time to perhaps consider changing the colour of your wooden floor. Budget Floor Sanding Brisbane offers a free onsite quote for all your floor sanding and polishing inquiries. Feel free to contact us with any questions regarding Staining wooden floors.

Black Japan look of dark timber floors and stairs.

Wooden stairs stained black with Feast Watson Prooftint.

Budget floor Sanding does regular floor sanding of stairs for one of Brisbane’s leading home project builders. This particular set of wooden stairs were in a new house under construction at Sherwood. To match other decor in the home the owners were keen to stain the timber stairs in a black stain. To ensure the end result matches the owners vision, stain samples are firstly supplied for the owners approval. The stairs were then sanded and then a stain coat of Feast Watson Prooftint is applied to the stairs. After the stain has dried, the stairs were then finished with 3 coats of a polyurethane satin finish.

This floor staining process can be undertaken over stairs or wooden flooring regardless of whether the timber is a lighter pine or a darker hardwood. Staining has become more popular and the Feast Watson Prooftint allows for a range of both colours and the varying intensity of stain strength. Budget Floor Sanding has completed many timber floor staining jobs over the years. If you would like more information on staining your wooden floor or stairs after the floor sanding process, please feel free to contact Budget Floor Sanding, Brisbane’s Floor Sanding and staining professionals.

Timber floor repairs have been part of restoring wooden floors in a large old Queenslander at West End this week. The timber floors in this house were previously covered in very old carpet and lino. Once the floor coverings were removed it became apparent that much of the old Hoop Pine flooring had an old Black Japan coating and that there was evidence of borer damage in some of the floor. This meant that floor board replacement was going to be required.

After this has been done the sanding of the floor is then completed and the first coat is then applied. At this stage the new wood floor boards stand out as they have not been stained.

Lastly to blend the new floor boards in with the old, the new floor boards receive a stain coat. By this stage all of the floor has had one coat. This assists in getting a good colour match because the colour of the once coated old boards are used as the colour guide when staining the new pine boards. Have a look at our other examples of Floor Board replacement.
