Floor Installation

Floor Installation Process

A step-by-step guide to installing new flooring over an existing timber floor, including how to handle damage from a fridge leak:

  • Remove the damaged flooring: Start by ripping up the old flooring in the kitchen where the fridge leak caused the boards to swell and cup.
  • Dry the subfloor: Use commercial fans and dehumidifiers to dry out the subfloor over three weeks. Perform weekly moisture tests to ensure the subfloor is dry and safe for the new installation.
  • Install the T&G flooring: Lay the tongue and groove flooring over the existing timber floor. Make sure to glue and top-nail it to the existing boards for a secure fit.
  • Sand and polish: Once the flooring is installed, sand and polish it to achieve a smooth and professional look.
