Floor Sanding and Staining a Hardwood Timber Floor

Staining hardwood timber floors darker

The hardwood Jarrah timber floor sanded and ready for a Walnut stain to be applied to the wooden floor.

Floor sanding this Brisbane Morningside home required the previously sanded and polished Jarrah hardwood timber flooring to be stripped back. The home had recently been purchased by an interstate family who disliked the red colored Jarrah timber floor, preferring instead a dark Walnut color which may be described as a Hampton’s look.

A complete re-sanding of the large areas of previously sanded and polished timber floors was required before any staining could commence. In order to achieve this transformation, Budget Floor Sanding Brisbane stripped the timber floor of the original coating, by sanding the wooden floors with multiple grades of premium floor sanding sandpaper. After the floor sanding stage, the wood floor was stained with a Feast Watson Prooftint Walnut Stain to alter the look of the wooden floor. Removing the underlying red timber color is not an easy task to accomplish. The walnut stain must be very strong, and even then additional stain was applied to the polyurethane topcoats to enhance the walnut stain and further remove the red Jarrah color.

The timber floor was then finished by coating with a satin polyurethane floor finish. And then the Hampton’s transformation was complete, all by floor sanding and staining the timber floor darker.
