A timber deck restoration was required in Hawthorne after the water-based deck finish deteriorated on a new decking installation. The new wooden veranda areas were part of a renovation project only completed last year. The builder had then finished the deck with a couple of coats of a water-based decking finish. Six months later the timber deck coating was already showing signs of degradation. As a major feature of the home, the owners decided to have the veranda re-sanded and finished with a quality deck coating.
Budget Floor Sanding sanded the deck to remove the water-based deck finish and then coated the deck with three coats of Sikkens Deck.
Regardless of which deck coating may be used, three coats are necessary to build up sufficient UV protection for the timber deck.
The wooden deck now has an attractive low sheen and a sufficient build of finish to provide reasonable wear and increased longevity.
