Floor Staining and Repairs Page 2

Staining New Flooring to Match Colour of Old flooring

The existing timber flooring in this house was previously polished, Cypress Pine. As part of a home renovation, the total floor area was increased by laying new pine flooring into the extension. As is often the case with new timber flooring, the wooden floorboards can be lighter in colour and this would have been obviously different when sanded and polished. To remedy this, the new timber flooring was sanded, and then a coloured stain coat was applied. Some time is spent in the mixing of stain colours before the stain is applied, to ensure the coating is a close colour match to the original timber floor.

Floor Sanding and Staining with feast Watson Black

Last year Budget Floor Sanding Brisbane sanded and polished the old timber floors at the White Chapel Kalbar wedding venue and their Black Hall Reception Centre in rural Historic Kalbar in the Scenic Rim. A year later the owners of White Chapel have added two residences to act as wedding accommodation for the quests or wedding party. Both of the residences are old Queenslanders that had rustic old Hoop Pine flooring that was in need of a timber floor restoration. The owner requested that the old hoop pine timber floors have a dark finish added to them. To achieve this the wooden floors were stripped back by sanding and then finished with a coat of Feast Watson Prooftint stain in the black color. The timber floor was then sealed with three coats in a polyurethane satin finish. With all timber floor staining, the intensity of the stain can be altered, it all depends on how strong you want the color of the wooden floor to be. In this case, the customer desired a very intense color, and the stain was mixed accordingly.

Staining of American Oak Timber Stairs

American Oak timber floors have become more popular around Brisbane lately, especially in homes where a Hampton style is desired. Recently Budget Floor Sanding completed the floor sanding and polishing of three sets of timber stairs in three new homes at Clayfield. The timber stairs had been installed with American Oak feature stair treads. The timber stair risers and stringers were to be painted white and the stair treads were sanded and polished, giving the staircase the Hampton look that the owners wanted. The client also requested that the timber stairs be stained a darker colour and this was achieved by applying a black Feast Watson stain to the timber stair treads, after they had been sanded. The timber stair treads were then finished with three coats of Loba water-based timber floor finish. The last coat applied, meets the non-slip R10 requirement that is now required by building regulations in Queensland for new timber stairs.

Floor Board Repair with Sanding and Polishing

Budget Floor Sanding Brisbane recently attended this home in Fairfield that required timber floorboard repairs, followed by floor sanding and polishing. The spotted gum hardwood timber floors had suffered water damage to the floor due to waterproofing issues in the bathroom. Over time the water ingress had damaged the timber flooring. To repair the water damaged timber floor, all the affected tongue and groove flooring was removed, and then it was replaced with the same species of wood, in this case, Spotted Gum.

Timber Floor Repair with Timber Floor Staining

Often in older houses, the timber floor requires repair as part of the floor sanding and polishing process. These floor repairs often involve floor board replacement and are a service that is also carried out by Budget Floor Sanding. This house in the Brisbane Suburb of East Brisbane had previously had a section of the pinewood flooring patched with a sheet of plywood. After removing the plywood and installing replacement timber floorboards in a staggered fashion to blend the new timber flooring with the older original Hoop Pine flooring, the floor was sanded back in preparation for staining.

Floor Sanding and Staining a Hardwood Timber Floor

Floor sanding this Brisbane Morningside home required the previously sanded and polished Jarrah hardwood timber flooring to be stripped back. The home had recently been purchased by an interstate family who disliked the red colored Jarrah timber floor, preferring instead a dark Walnut color which may be described as a Hampton’s look.

Staining of a Hoop Pine Timber Floor at Norman Park

Staining of timber floors has become a frequent line of inquiry here at Budget Floor Sanding Brisbane. Principally the floor stain colors that clients are interested in, are black stains and dark chocolate brown stains. In old Queenslanders, not everyone desires the honey color of the old Hoop Pine floorboards and these are the most common timber floors that we are asked to stain.

Floor Sanding Timber Stairs and Staining them Black

Budget floor Sanding does regular floor sanding of stairs for one of Brisbane’s leading home project builders. This particular set of wooden stairs were in a new house under construction at Sherwood. To match other decors in the home the owners were keen to stain the timber stairs in a black stain. To ensure the end result matches the owner’s vision, stain samples are firstly supplied for the owner’s approval. The stairs were then sanded and then a stain coat of Feast Watson Prooftint is applied to the stairs. After the stain has dried, the stairs were then finished with 3 coats of a polyurethane satin finish.

Floor Sanding and Liming St Lucia Timber Stairs

Budget Floor Sanding was recently engaged to floor sand and polish this set of open tread timber stairs. The client was keen to maintain the light pine color of the timber as much as possible. Unfortunately, either end of the stair treads had previously been covered in paint. After the floor sanding process, it was evident that this section of the stair tread was a little lighter in color. In order to help hide this discoloration, the stair treads were finished with an Enviro Pro water-based coating in which a liming solution was mixed. After two coats of this whitewash solution, the color difference in the timber of the stair tread was barely noticeable with the added bonus of the treads complementing the previously painted stair stringers. If your timber stairs are suffering from wear and tear, contact Brisbane’s floor sanding and polishing specialists and we can refurbish them to their original state.

Floor Sanding and Polishing at Holland Park

Floor sanding and polishing were required in this recently built Holland Park home. Budget Floor Sanding was contracted by the builder to sand and polish the wooden floor and stairs. The timber flooring used in this residence was Tasmanian Oak, it is a light-colored timber with light pink tones. The timber stairs were constructed using the same timber.
