Often when a house renovation takes place, areas of missing flooring and unpolished timber are exposed. Recently Budget Floor Sanding has been working on such a project in the Brisbane suburb of Balmoral. This particular timber floor has parquetry and after the moving of the kitchen from one part of the living area to another, patches were exposed where there was no parquetry.

Timber floor repairs have been part of restoring wooden floors in a large old Queenslander at West End this week. The timber floors in this house were previously covered in very old carpet and lino. Once the floor coverings were removed it became apparent that much of the old Hoop Pine flooring had an old Black Japan coating and that there was evidence of borer damage in some of the floor. This meant that floorboard replacement was going to be required.

During the past week, Budget Floor Sanding has been working sanding and polishing the floors at a house in the Brisbane suburb of Ashgrove. This house has undergone a major renovation with large areas of new Hoop pine flooring laid as part of an extension.

Sand and grit are harmful to polished timber floors. They are easily bought into homes with footwear. These particles act like sandpaper and can result in scratches on the floor.

Blackbutt timber flooring has in recent years been a very popular choice of timber flooring in new houses and in flooring extensions. It is a good choice for old Queenslanders undergoing extensions due to its similar color as compared to old Hoop Pine flooring, yet it is much harder than Hoop Pine flooring. Blackbutt is a commonly grown hardwood that has attractive coloring from cream to pale brown, sometimes with a slight tinge of pink. The Janka hardness rating is 9.1. This test is a measure of the force required to press a steel ball into the wood surface to half its diameter. The larger the number the harder the wood.

During a typical busy week prior to Christmas Budget Floor Sanding was contracted to do the floor sanding and polishing in two new houses side by side in the Brisbane suburb of Gordon Park. Both of these houses had Tasmanian Oak flooring secret nailed to both the upper and lower floors with a connecting set of stairs.

In recent years Budget Floor Sanding has done a number of apartments and common areas at McWhirters Apartments in Fortitude Valley. The two lifts in the complex have hardwood floors. Being in such a high wear situation Budget Floor Sanding has now sanded and polished these lift floors on a couple of occasions.

Timber floorboards are one of those original features that homeowners long for and real estate agents crow about. They are synonymous with contemporary interiors. They are not new of course, with timbers such as Queensland Hoop Pine used in some of our oldest Brisbane homes. With mass production of tongue and groove flooring, timber flooring was by far the most popular domestic choice in homes.
